Dark Woods

Once courage is mustered and one is stepping through the light shining between the trees, one may start scoffing. Surely the picturesque woods are no more than what they seem, and danger doesn't indeed lurk in between each rock, each mushroom bobbing in the light, in the shadows cast by the canopy. Surely one is just imagining that the trees might be watching, that there's a figure, glimpsed briefly as it glides through the spaces between the sturdy trunks. Surely.
